The Standard Oil building, as seen from Battery Park in Manhattan. Its top once burned a perpetual flame even during the height of the Great Depression; a show of excess, power, and wealth by the oil company. In 1911, the monopoly of Standard Oil was broken up and separated into the various oil companies we have today. Monopoly to oligopoly. Not much of a difference is there?
